Maardvark Speaks to Me

Alexis is currently standing next to the desk and making maardvark talk. She started this about a week ago, and usually his voice is fairly gentle. In an attempt to gain my attention, though maardvark is indoor screaming at me. (He also prays and plays peek-a-boo.) It's a pretty cool thing to see. Alexis' language is exploding, which is wonderful. The main problem, though, is that when she puts two words together on her own, the first word usually consists of "my" and the second word has something to do with daddy. Never mommy. It's all about "my daddy" right now. Occasionally she'll say something else with two words that she puts together on her own. I wasn't there to see it, but apparently she stubbed her toes yesterday morning. Jason said she looked down at her foot and tragically stated, "My toes!" I wish I had seen that. She'll just come out with words I didn't know she knew, like asking me to open the lid to the trash can. She says amen pretty consistently now after we pray, she's learning please but doesn't do too well with thank you, and she still likes to make animal noises more than saying the name of the animal.

We've had a lot of visitors this week. The Silers came to visit on Wednesday and left again on Saturday, and my parents came up to visit on Sunday just for a few hours. Alexis loved EVERYONE!!! She just eats up the attention, even though sometimes she has a bit of a difficult time decompressing afterwards, but that's not unusual. Mom and Earl came up to visit to attend our confirmation. Yes, we are now officially Anglicans! It was a short ceremony that was part of the main service, but it was really nice to go through it, and the bishop who was confirming us had my parents pray with the rector and vestry, which was cool. At the very end when everyone was welcoming us, he said, "You may now kiss the bride!" That had everyone laughing. And then we came home and had kabobs and talked landscaping for the afternoon. We still have a lot to do to the house, and at this point it's mostly outdoors, and they are the perfect people to help out with that!

The next two weeks are failry uneventful, which is needed, and then we have more visitors (hooray!) and Jason will be gone for two weeks at the end of May. Yes, Nanny, I will be coming to Richmond to visit at some point during that time! I'll even bring my daughter so that you can hang out with her. ;)

Everything with Micah seems fine, Alex is doing well, although it's hard to believe that she's almost two, which means I'm almost thirty, and that's probably harder for me to believe.

Alex is currently having a hissy fit. I think she's just tired and in recovery form all the visitors, so I'm going to go give her lunch and put her down for an early nap.

New Tooth

First, apparently last time I forgot to talk about ALex and the ABC's. She can identify the letter A pretty well now, which is very cool! She doesn't do too well with B and C and usually says that C is B. We're working on it. She's gotten pretty good with shapes, too, and can say and identify heart, star, and circle. It's really cute when she says circle. When we were at Target the other day she looked at the bullseye on the shopping cart and said "circle" - it was so cute!

Yesterday she was incredibly cranky. I went to Panera last night to do some grading and Jason said that he thought he knew why she had been so cranky all day. Another tooth was finally creaking through! I had seen the "hole" where I thought one was going to come in a few days ago, and sure enough, this morning I can feel it. It's on the bottom to the left of the two front bottom teeth. That now gives her nine. (Don't most kids have a lot more teeth by her age? :)

And in small news, I apparently left one of her dresser drawers open this morning. I was downstairs and heard what I thought was the beep of a thermometer. Of course she had taken everything out of that drawer that she could, which was bad because of course it had a box of tissues in it, which were everywhere! lol. The cute thing, though, is that the little things in the drawer - aspirator, tylenol, medicine dropper, thermometer, etc. were all lined up neatly on the windowsill. How cute.

I know it's a little early, but Alex does have a birthday wish list on my amazone account. (This is for grandparents.) There's a lot of stuff for her new room on the list from IKEA if you're interested in helping us put it together. We bought a bed for her yesterday, which is exciting, and after I'm done with this class, it will be time to start tackling needed househol projects like getting her new room set up! HOORAY!!!
